Our Team

  • Steve Dollahite

I have worked in a variety of fields that have all contributed to my proficiency and passion for massage therapy. My goal is to assess your situation and provide you with the tools you need to keep your body functioning at a high level.

  • Leif Peterson

My journey with bodywork began with my love of dance. The lack of understanding I had for the basic functions of our bodies left me yearning for better insight into encouraging my body to function at is peak performance. I got my education in bodywork from the Institute of Psycho – Structural Balancing (I.P.S.B, which is now know as the Life Energy Institute) My work is based in Tai Chi, so I stay grounded while aiding your body to heal. The current modalities I have at my fingertips are Swedish circulatory, Thai massage, Sports Therapy, Lomi Lomi, and Deep tissue. With application of all my tools, the method is slow and steady. The most exciting occurrence about bodywork is the ability to share the knowledge I have gained on my journey with clients. We only get one temple upon birth and its is vital that we know as much as we possibly can about these amazing vessels which carry our awareness through life. One of my main goals in life is to deepen my appreciation for the gift and to encourage others to find an immeasurable appreciation as well.

The Process

Through touch, intuition and knowledge of the mechanics of the body, a program that best suits your specific massage needs for that day are determined. Develop as compensation patterns from injuries and chronic tensions. Massage 4 u is a healing therapy that accesses the body’s memory of old movement patterns, releases them and then re-programs the muscle and brain memories. Deliberately address and remove adhesions(muscle fibers that are stuck together) created from muscle micro-tears caused by repetitive stress, muscle over-use or trauma. The first step will be to examine your musculature structure to determine how to best integrate stretching, flexing, and training correspondent muscle groups to work together. With the use of ‘muscle testing’ (applied kinesiology), the body will reveal how and where to work

Sports Massage

The sports massage actually came from the Swedish massage technique. Geared specifically to the athlete, this massage focuses on muscles that have seen a large degree of stress and use, often to the point of overuse. The sports massage is now recognized by many in the training industry as an accepted component to an overall regimen of training and competition. The targeting of the muscle and tendons within the body is key for athletic training. There are several key elements to sports massage. To better understand each of these, let’s look at them separately.

  • Steve reads issues in my body that I am not aware of. He is extremely attuned and gives elbow grease a whole new meaning by kneading the knots right out.

  • After hurting lower back on first day in Kihei, we found Steve at the Kahului Saturday market three days later. He was able to help me understand what the issue was and offer assistance, a 20 minute session at the market (where he is every Saturday), recommendations on in-room yoga exercises to help loosen the area, and another 90 minute session at his office two days later. Because of his expertise, Steve was able to loosen a very painful and tight area. If I was still in Kihei, I would have done another 2-3 sessions before flying back to the mainland. Highly recommend.

  • He address all of my specific concern. I wanted to feel better when i left, i sure did! Mahalo

  • I'm glad I kept his card from 4 yrs ago. One session and I could walk without hip pain.

I am often asked what kind of  massage I do and how to find a therapist that does similar type work. How do you verbalize the techniques that were used ?

Education is a big part that many schools don’t fully integrate into their programs, so check all the massage schools in your area even ones that have closed. Often they keep a list of graduates. Ask for graduates in your area.

I prefer a person with some life experience, someone who has experienced loss of a loved one, family trauma, occupational challenges, things that we all go through in life, so usually older is better.

To push and pull on people requires strength, endurance and good physical condition, look for someone that is height/weight proportionate and looks and acts healthy.
Read the reviews that people have written about my work and then search reviews in your area for people making similar comments about local therapists.

Lots of reviews say it was a great massage but the average person rarely knows what is possible, so read a lot of the reviews.

Usually in 10 minutes you can tell if you are getting effective work. If not ask to stop the session and pay the therapist a fair amount and start your search again.

Massage won’t fix everything, with 650 muscles in the body frequently some get injured or become weak. Search for a quality physical therapist or personal trainer to assess if you might have some weakness.

Chiropractic can help but I’m not a fan of most chiropractors because it’s usually a 5 minute treatment which is just not enough time to really assess, treat, and educate the client. Use the same hints to find a great one don’t settle for less.

Acupuncture can be great for many things especially systemic issues.

Now this is what I do. I use motion to assess and treat the muscular and skeletal body. I support and move a leg, arm, torso etc using what I like to call cradling. This requires having as much contract as possible with the body part so that it feels fully supported. Then I very slowly but firmly move it everywhere it should go, if it feels restricted I assess which muscles could be involved and I shift a hand to that area and palpate until the clients breath changes, I feel the muscle respond and then push the limits to a new range creating a sense of comfort with the new motion. I use as many as 10 different techniques to treat that area as I move the body part in every possible direction. The subconscious brain is in charge of all proprioception (Sense of position and movement and where the body part is in relation to all the other body parts and the environment).

As movements become compromised after injuries new patterns of movement form and become the new normal. That pattern is what I am trying to  sense and alter. Since the subconscious brain has not sent to order to move the body part but it is moving the subconscious brain is forced to accept this motion. I believe it is not possible to treat the entire body in one session but focus on the issues presented to me, and encourage the client to take responsibility for their own well being.
